On my quest for clean water I have been busy traveling to visit fresh water springs. I went on a journey to New Zealand and was blessed to see many rock bottom, clear rivers flowing in many parts of the south island. Although they looked amazing there is a new fungal infection spreading rapidly through the waters called Dydimo causing havoc. I also looked upon some huge, iridescent blue lakes, so spectacular.
I ended my trip in the north island in Rotorua. I drank form a gorgeous spring (Te-Puka-Tapu-O-Tuhoe) where I could see the source bubbling up from the earth through the pebbles on the riverbed, deliciously refreshing. I visited a 300 year old Mauri village situated on a very active volcanic area. There the people use the hot bubbling blue mineral pool (98-110 degrees) to cook sweetcorn in muslin cloth and hungi’s with a constant supply of steam to cook their meat every day. I felt the earth bubbling beneath my feet and watched a geyser (Pohutu) forcing hot water and steam 10 meters into the air, a truly awesome experience. Oh then there were the lovely hot mineral baths to sooth the muscles and heal the skin, I sat there in the steam while it was raining on me, cooling me softly. aaaahhhh glorious water!
Another inspiration for traveling to New Zealand was to sample some of the nourishing food they produce in their lush, fertile soil. I was surprised to find that over 80% of their produce is exported and it was hard to find the good stuff, the locals accept the seconds and what supermarkets dish up.
